Berlin Marathon last year brought a copious number of PB’s from the group and this year even though we had a small select group , we still had a couple of impressive performances. Andrea Talpo joined the group less than 2 years ago and his performances continue to get better and better. He joined with a 3.15 approx PB and improved it to 3.05 in Dublin. Today he ran 2:56.53 to join the ever growing band of Sub 3 runners from the group. This was made even more impressive when you consider Andrea ran the Copenhagen Ironman only 4 weeks ago.Andrea has been one of our most regular and consistent attendees at all our sessions over the last 12 months, so his performance is well earned and deserved. Will Byrne also competed and finished in 3.17.
A couple of victories to report from today. Niamh Devlin after along absence through injury made her return a victorous one by winning the Boyne 5k in 18.39.Clive Quinn continued his fine recent form with victory in the Wicklow Hospice 10k in 34.16. ( Yet another slightly long course with his 10k reading being 34.00).
On the mountain running front, Sarah Mulligan who like Niamh only recently returned to competitve action represented Ireland in the World Mountain Running Championships in Andorra and finished in 51st place , helping the team to 11th place. Geoff Duff finished 29th in the Glen Of Aherlow Trail Marathon whilst Liz Wheeler was 50th at the Ring of Steall Skyline race in Scotland.
Finally , a couple of results from last week that we didn’t have going to press. Fergal Roche won the Sea Blue 5k in Chicago in a time of 18.31. Fergal moved to Chicago last year for work but continues to get out and race. Back in Ireland John Kirwan finished 2nd in the Marian Geraghty 5k in 18.51
