Half marathon’s definitely to the fore this week .Two of our guys competed in the Hague Half Marathon with excellent results from both achieved. Paul Stephenson ran 68.54 (PB) and Ciaran Aylward running 75.34 (PB) .
Back home we had a much larger contingent in attendance at the ever popular Bohermeen Half in Meath. Fergal Whitty was our first finisher with a 72.30 run for 2nd place in the O/40 category. Paul Fleming in a rare run over this distance ran 74.02 for 4th O/40. Tom Lupton made the podium with 3rd overall in the Duhallow 10 mile (54.34)
Two competitors at the Simon 5 with Ian Martin running 32.18 and Joe Marrinan (35.31).
Over the country Sonya McConnon was 2nd in the womens 2 mile BHAA in Maynooth. In the men’s 4 mile Peter O’Toole was 4th closely followed by Neilus Healy (6th) Derek Taylor (7th – 2nd O/40) with Paraic Shortall (16th) David Naylor (34th) Aidan Dennehy (39th) and Joe Corocran (58th).
Finally seems there was a bit of confusion at yesterday’s IMRA Howth. I would like to commend Conor Daly for holding his hands for taking the wrong route and reducing his run by a km or so and DQ’ing himself. Very honourable and honest from him . It’s only a pity that others didn’t do the same and own up as it really obscures the results. Martin Gaynor was given 12th place however there was only 4 maybe 5 ever in front of him throughout the race. Well done also to Brian McGuickian on another win in his O/50 category.
