We had a good turn out at the Bank of Ireland BHAA Cross Country 6k in Tymon Park. Colm Costello led the group home in 3rd place overall , Next to finish was Derek Taylor in 16th (4th O/45) with Barry Aherne not far behind in 19th ( 7th O/40) . Davy Naylor made his way through the field to place 24th overall (3rd O/50 ) Clare Sullivan ran excellently to win the women’s race when finishing 28th overall. Eoghan Kerins was our next home in 35th with Rob Brannigan 43rd and Alan Jones 46th. Malika Hammanii won her O/45 category with her 57th place finish. John Fennely was next in 61st with Conor Daly running a lovely steady run in 66th ( 5th O/60 with Joe Corcoran not far behind in 76th (8th O/60) and finally Tomas Dunne came home in 97th place. Alan Jones was on the winning team with Eoghan and Joe on the 2nd place team.. Amazingly , we still had 35 people at our tempo session earlier on which is fantastic considering those that ran and helped out at the BAHA. This session seems to go from strength to strength. Everyone is welcome to come over to this and I envisage that we will hit the 50 mark in the coming weeks.
Brain Cronin rounded off 2023 with a big PB over 5k which I reported on last week and this week he did it again , this time over 10k . He placed 3rd overall in the Sitges Quarter Marathon in Spain which is over the unusual distance of 10,5k. His time going through the 10k marker was 32.56 which improves on his 35.13 in a 10k in Dublin from May last year.
Well done to our competitors in the Art O’Neill Challenge . Both Richard Garry (43rd – 9 hours 50 minutes ) and Ken O’Brien (88th – 11hours 37 minutes ) easily finished in the top half of the field. In the shorter Art O’Neill pursuit Eamon Halpiin also finished in the top half in 74th place ( 2 hours 45 minutes)
