Very much an international feel to the report this week. Yesterday morning was the Comrades Ultra Marathon which is held in South Africa. This is one of the most prestigous races held in the world and is broadcast live on South African television. Caitriona Jennings was making her debut in the race and her performance was quite remarkable where she finished the 87k race in 3rd place in a time of 6.24. Fantastic achievement from Caitriona.
Also on foreign soil we had two from the group representing Ireland at the Trail De Guerledan in Brittainy, France. Liz Wheeler was on the women’s team that took silver and Tom Lupton was on the men’s team that took bronze.
Back on home soil and one result which I wasn’t able to report on last week was the Leinster Masters track & field. In the men’s 5,000m we had another remarkable result where we had the winner of the Senior, O/35 and O/40 races with James Kelly , Tom Lupton and Paul Fleming all taking gold.
At the latest IMRA race last Wednesday at Prince William’s Seat we continue to get the numbers out . Alasdair Brown continues to show his likeness for the hills with an impressive 4th place finish and he was followed in by John McAuley (7th) Ian Conroy (12th) Caoimhin McMaolain (15th – 3rd O/40) Brian McGuickian ( 28th) Conor Nolan ( 31st – 1st O/60) and Ken Mc Keown (50th).
At the Wexford Marathon Conor Kinane finished 7th overall ( 2nd O/40 – 3:26.15) and Peter Doyle ( 5th O/50 – 3:51.04)
