The weekend began on a high note with Caitriona Jennings winning the National 50k championships in Donadea in a winning time of 3 hours 24 minutes which smashed the Irish record by 6 minutes. Also running in the race and having fine runs were James Nealon 27th ( 3.59 ) and Tim Chapman 59th (4.22).
We had more success in the Masters cross country in Clarinbridge in Galway. Individual success came from Des Kennedy who took gold in the o/45 category. Also in the men’s race we had in the O/35 category Louis McCarthy was 10th, Ronan Kearns 15th and Phil Kilgannon 23rd. In the O/40 category Clive Quinn was 5th and Paul Fleming 10th and finally Kieran Murray was 21st in thee O/50 category. The trio of Louis , Ronan and Paul won the team gold in the O/35 category for Rathfarnham WSAF and Des joined Paul and Ronan to help Dublin to county bronze. Kieran won team bronze in the O/50 category with Clonliffe Harriers. Conor McCarthy finished 60th in the men’s intermediate.
In the women’s masters race we had Ilona McIllroy finishing 9th in the O/35 category and Anne Curley 15th and Julia Hackett 16th in the O/45 category. Ilona also helped Crusaders to team gold.
Finally and not to be outdone Linda Byrne won the Enniscorthy 10k in cold and windy conditions in a time of 36.30.
