We had a number competing in various races over the weekend right around the country and even abroad. Over in The Hague , Netherlands two of our elder statesmen continue to produce fine performances with Kieran Murphy running 83.14 and Maurice McCrohan 87.29 for the Half Marathon.
Yesterday up in the north of the country Caitriona Jennings recorded another victory , this time in the Derry 10 mile race in a time of 59.13 in what was wet and blustery conditions. Down in the south Tom Lupton finished in second place in a 10k in Ennis in a time of 34.13.
Also , yesterday the National Masters Indoors were taken place in Athlone. Ronan Kearns won a fine silver in the O/40 800m in a time 2:04.4. Pearse Coyle finished in 6th place in the 1500m O/50 event in a seasons best time of 4:52. In the 3,000m Terry Brady finished 9th in the O/35 race whilst Paul Fleming took bronze in the O/40 ( 9:21) with Colm Costelloe 7th ( 9:36) and Illona McIllroy 4th in O/35 women (10.57).
Back to today we had a large contingent competing in Bohermeen. In the 10k event Geoff Duff was 3rd O/40 in a time of 37:21. The Half Marathon proved very successful for many of our competitors. Fergal Whitty was our first finisher in a time of 73:07 ( 2nd O/40) followed by Clive Quinn ( 74.13 – 4th O/40) Niall Lynch (74.51 – 4th O/45) Des Tremble ( 75.38 – 5th O/45) Terry Brady (80.15 ) Robbie Costelloe ( 80.52 and a big PB of over 90 seconds) Shane MaCauley ( 81.55) Brian Kitson ( 86.03 , 3 minute PB) Alan Hughes (86.23 , another 3 minute PB) Andrea Talpo ( 86.42) Stephen McEntee ( 87.51 – 10 minutes , YES 10 minute PB)Dan Delaney ( 88.12) Des Feeley ( 88.59 ) Eimear Fitzmaurice ( 14th female – 90.13) Anne Curley ( 6th O/45 – 91.15) and Johnny Finnegan ( 93.14)
Finally on a seperate note , well done to Will Byrne who won the the O45 title in the National Duathlon Champonships.
