“The hills are alive with the sound of music ” or more to the point course records. Over the last couple of years the girls through the likes of Laura, Sarah , Sonya and Niamh definitely flew the flag for TTracers on the mountains with numerous course records and representation for Ireland on the international stage. 2018 definitely belongs to the men though . Des Kennedy and Tom Lupton will both be representing Ireland at senior level in different competitions in the coming weeks. Des at the World Trail Championshios and Tom at the highly prestigous Snowdownian International. The two of them were both compting on the hills in the last few days and both broke the respective course records. Yesterday Tom won the Leinister Championship on the aptly named Mount Leinster. whilst Des won the Scarr Imra on Wednesday. Also competing on Scarr were Robbie Costelloe in 12th place followed by Caoimhin MacMaolain 21st, and Brian McGuickian 31st. Liz Wheeler finished 4th in the women’s race.
On Friday night Laura Shaughnessy was just edged out by olympian Kerry O Flaherty at the Braveheart 5k. Laura finished 2nd in 16.45.Jean Wilson took first prize in the O/40 section (19.23) . Brian O’Mhurchu finished 15th in the mens in a time o f 17.37
At the Castleknock 5k both Fergal Whitty and Ken Norgrove had fine runs with Fergal 4th overall and 1st O/40 in 16.41 and Ken 3rd O/40 (17.10).
