What a day we had at the Wickow Way relay yesterday. It ended with a momentous victory for TTRacers and thus becoming the first team to win the event 3 years in a row. The race itself definitely should come with a health warning and not because of the course but due to the rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout the event. When you think it’s all going well one missed turn and you suddenly have lost minutes The fact that we had two navigation errors and still win by 8 minutes is testament to all of our 8 runners involved.
We had 3 other teams competing and each one performed exceptionally with 6th , 7th and 25th placings recorded. Not only that we had 3 representatives on the team that finished 2nd ,another on the 3rd team and copious others running for their clubs.
This is one of the most remarkable races on the athletics calendar and one thing I notice is that those who run keep coming back to do it again and again.
In other races over the weekend. Louis McCarthy won the St Benildus 5k on friday night in 16.01 with Dermot Brosnan running 18.52 and 3rd O/40.
At the River Moy Half Marathon Ken Whitelaw ran 1:27.32 and Kiera Roche was 4th female in 1:31.18
Peter Barry finished 8th in the London Spring 10k in Regents Park in a time of 37.48.
At the Navan 6k Terry Brady was 10th in 20.56.
Finally we had two on the Irish team that finished 4th at the European Masters Half Marathon in Spain with Clive Quinn running 75 minutes and Ronan Kearns 83 minutes
