Since its June Bank Holiday weekend , it can only mean one thing. Womens’ Mini Marathon. Although we had a smaller representation than usual nonetheless we had many fine performances. Our first finisher this year was Niamh Devlin in 15th place in a time of 37.48. Niamh was followed home by Florrie Curley in 43rd ( 2nd O/45 – 41.25) with Barbara Murray ( 48th – 42.03) Eimear Fitzmaurice (73rd – 43.28 ) Leah Benson ( 44.09 – 3 minute PB) and Christine O’Connor ( 47.26 , PB by 45 seconds) .
Earlier in the week Niamh tasted victory in the Michelle McKernan 5k in a time of 18.12 . Just ahead of her was Paul O’Donnell ( 18.00 – 2nd O/40) an d Alan King ran 19.13.
At the Balbriggan 5k Ronan Dunphy posted a podium finish for 3rd place ( 17.21 ) with Alan King competing in his 2nd 5k in a matter of days running 20.06 and Dan Delaney 20.37.
On the hills we first had the Carrick Mountain race down in Glenealy . Alasdair Brown after his fine exploits in the Wicklow Way relay decided to try out one of these races and came through with flying colours and a fine 8th place finish. Alasdair was followed home by Ian Conroy in 16th, Brian Kitson 18th, Gareth Little 26th, Robert Costello 28th, Caoimhin MacMaolain 29th and Brian McGuckian 46th . Brian Kitson followed this up with a 24th place finish at the Carrauntoohill race in Kerry.
