Since its April , it can only mean one thing. Start of Spring Marathon season. This weekend we had a number of athletes at the Rotterdam and Milan Marathons. In Rotterdam Des Kennedy was our first home in 2:37.54 to win the O/50 category and post a new PB as well. Des was followed home by Caitriona Jennings who rolled back the years from her great run here in 2012 to post her fastest time since with a 2:38.42 run for 15th female overall and 2nd O/35. Next was Ronan Dunphy in 2:52.07 with Alasdair Brown also breaking the 3 hour barrier with a massive 18 minute PB for 2:56.47. Brian Kitson had the bittersweet experience of also posting a huge PB but came so close to also breaking the 3 hour barrier with a fine 3:00.18. Still a magnificent run on his part. Next was Kiera Roche (3:16.39 PB) with Rob Costello ( 3:21.38)
In the Milan Marathon we had another massive 8 minute PB , this time coming from Cosimo Marascuilo ( 3:11).
Yesterday we had a number running the Ras UCD 5k with victory in both the men’s and women’s races. Rory O’Connor won the mens race in 15.00. Phil KilgannonĀ was next in 16.31 (1st O/40) with Sean McCann (16.43 – 2nd O/40) Ed Hayes (16.57) and Paraic Shortall 17.26. In the women’s race Linda Byrne won in 17.03 followed by Niamh Devlin ( 3rd – 17.59) Malika Hammani ( 3rd O/40 – 19.05) and Julia Hackett (6th O/40 – 21.13)
In other races John Clohissey ran 64.42 (5th O/40) for the Cobh 10 mile. Maurico Neto ( 43.10) in the Maynooth 10k. Alan Bernie made the podium for a 2nd place finish at the Doandea 10kĀ (37.31) while Ian Martin placed 24th at the Bray Cliff 10k (42.31 ).
